COMPLETED58 Apache
§ Watch the build
Stroll through a central Texas park with the award-winning 58 Apache.
§ 01
THE BRIEF
The 58 Apache is Levi's own truck — handed down from his uncle Billy when Levi was 14 and rebuilt over a decade into the piece that put Hammer Fab on the map. GM runs deep in the family: Levi's father and uncle both worked lifetime careers at General Motors building Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, and Buicks, and the truck carries GM through and through. Body work started in 2009 with a hand-fabricated 14 gauge firewall and a full cab in orange high-build primer. Daniel Reyna's 2016 rendering set the final direction — soft period Chevy blue over a white cab roof, factory Apache trim kept intact, dropped over polished Raceline Classico billet wheels. The drivetrain is a 355 CI iron small block Chevy pulled from Levi's father's '75 Caprice, backed by a Turbo 350 and an IROC Camaro rear differential with GM brakes at all four corners, fed by a Holley Terminator X self-tuning EFI throttle body. Inside, Jay Schluter stitched a custom C10 bench in dual-tone leather with NOS 1955 Bel Air fabric inserts and Pontiac-tribute emblems, sitting under a satin champagne metallic dash with chrome knobs from an old Packard and a Vintage Air control panel. The bed interior is satin clear-coated over the blue. Debuted at SEMA 2019 in the HRIA booth and awarded the Chevrolet Design Award for Truck of the Year. John Jackson of Not Stock Photography shot the finished truck in 2022.
§ 02 — Note from the shop
"The shop truck that proved what Hammer Fab could do — before the shop had a name on the door."

FABRICATION MILESTONECustom 14 ga steel firewall
Early sheet metal work on the 58 Apache — a custom 14 gauge steel firewall fabricated from scratch with recessed access windows. Shown as a stand-alone piece, test-fitted to the cab, then body-worked and coated in orange high-build primer. The final satin black finish shows the level of detail that started back in this early metal work.

DESIGN MILESTONEDaniel Reyna rendering
Original hand-drawn rendering by Daniel Reyna, dated February 2016. This sketch established the build's overall direction — the stance, the soft period blue over white color scheme, and the factory trim treatment. The wheels were later changed during the build process, but the core visual identity started here.

BODY MILESTONEC-10s in the park — epoxy primer
September 2018, out in the park with the local C-10 crew. The 58 Apache rolled in wearing fresh epoxy primer over finished body work — stance dialed in on the polished Raceline Classicos, bed sides straight, cab gaps clean. A good look at the truck before color went on.

FABRICATION MILESTONEDetails coming together
A few details as the project neared completion — where the fun and excitement makes the lengthy build process all worth it. Mahogany with maple inlays sample for interior trim. One-off billet fuel filler trim ring and cap turned by Levi on a manual lathe. A 3D-printed heater hose manifold — one of our first functional printed parts, still holding up to hot coolant to this day. Tailgate metal details, door handle pocket work, and an updated rendering with the correct wheels.

FEATURE MILESTONE2022 — Finished truck beauty shots
Final beauty shots of the 58 Apache by world-famous John Jackson of Not Stock Photography — such an honor to have him shoot this truck. Let's get him to shoot yours too. Jay Schluter handled the foam and stitch work on the custom C10 bench seat. The truck runs GM themes through and through, including tributes to the Pontiac brand — Levi's father and his uncle Billy (who gave Levi the truck when he was 14) both worked lifelong careers at General Motors building Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, and Buicks. The brand runs blood deep. The engine is actually pulled from a 75 Caprice that Levi and his dad had built by a family mechanic friend — still runs great to this day. It's a 355 CI backed by a Turbo 350 transmission and an IROC Camaro rear differential, with GM brakes all around.

§ 04 — Process
Chapter by chapter.
Every build is documented as it moves through the shop. Here's how this one came together.
C041Metal and body
Started in 2009 with a hand-fabricated 14 gauge steel firewall and a full cab shot in orange high-build primer. Task Force body lines kept intact, factory Apache trim preserved, every panel blocked straight before color.
C042Paint
Soft period Chevy blue over a white cab roof — a two-tone combination pulled straight from a 1958 Chevrolet brochure. Sprayed in the Hammer Fab booth.
C043Stance and wheels
Dropped over polished Raceline Classico billet wheels that tuck the front tires and fill the bed sides. Ride height set for the street, not just the show floor.
C044SEMA 2019
Unveiled in the HRIA booth at SEMA 2019 and awarded the Chevrolet Design Award for Truck of the Year. Delivered to the road in Liberty Hill right after — still driven today.
